Hawk 250 Exhaust Upgrades

An exhaust is one of the first upgrades Hawk 250 owners reach for, and one of the most commonly installed wrong. A freer exhaust can help — but only when it is paired with the right jetting and intake. Here is what an exhaust actually does on the Hawk and how to set it up so the bike runs better, not louder-and-worse.

What an exhaust changes

The stock Hawk 250 exhaust is quiet and restrictive, which is part of why the bike runs rich up top from the factory. A less-restrictive muffler or full system lets the engine breathe out more freely, which moves the torque curve and can free up top-end power. It also sheds weight — the stock muffler is heavy — and changes the sound, sometimes a lot.

On its own, a freer exhaust leans out the mixture because more air flows through for the same fuel. That is why you re-jet at the same time. Skip the jetting and you risk a lean, hot-running engine that makes less power than stock.

Pairing exhaust with jetting and intake

The reliable recipe is exhaust plus a high-flow air filter plus a larger main jet. Open up the intake and the exhaust together, then tune the carburetor jets to match — usually a step or two richer on the main, with the needle raised a clip. Read the spark plug after a wide-open run to confirm.

Done right, the bike pulls harder on top and revs cleaner. Done wrong, it is loud, flat, and runs hot. Browse Hawk 250 exhaust upgrades and treat the jets as part of the same job.

Sound and legality

A louder exhaust is not always a better one, and an obnoxiously loud dual sport is a fast way to lose trail access. If you ride street-legal, keep something close to a quiet core. The Hawk is never going to be fast enough to justify alienating the neighbors.
