Hawk 250 Rim Swap and Ride with Girlfriend

The tires on my main street hawk 250 bike were done and I really wanted to ride but I’m not sure which new tires to go with for my hawk 250 dual sport. I have a second hawk 250 that is mostly for off-roading only and not registered. So I took the rim from my off-road hawk 250 and put it on my street hawk 250. It was a quick swap and then the girlfriend and I went for a short 50 mile ride to test everything out.

First I removed the front hawk 250 rim from my street hawk. This hawk 250 came with black rims which I prefer over the first hawks rims.

Hawk 250

This is the color rim that the first set of hawk 250s came out with. Make sure to check those bolts on the front break rotor and add some loctite and make sure that clamps are pushed against the head of the bolt to prevent vibration from loosening them up.

My first hawk 250, mostly for off-roading because its not registered.

Hawk 250

Quick rim swap and I’m ready for the road.

If your stock cluster stopped working or isn’t accurate, make sure to check the speedometer speed sensor, mine was pretty much stuck. I took it apart, cleaned it up, greased it and its like brand new. I didn’t get a chance to test it because the hawk 250 off-road edition isn’t ready for the road, it needs some new parts.

Hawk 250

That same day my hawk 250 stickers came in and they are pretty cool. The quality from Zazzle is pretty good. You can find these on my hawk 250 fan shop.

Hawk 250

Bek stopped by to watch me do some work on the hawk 250 and learn something haha. Then we had a nice BBQ with some cheeseburgers and and spicy chicken wings.

Grilling

Just messing around with the hawk 250 on my property, I can have a nice trail here once I find the time to clean out this land of mine.

Hawk 250

After changing the tire and taking some pictures of the hawk 250 around my house the girl and I jumped on the hawk for a cruise.  Our first stop was the Stone Church in Ellenville, NY, but they were having a weeding and the hawk 250 didn’t get a invite.

We then went to a farm we usually drive by to see some horses, camels, donkey’s, you name it, they have it.

Hawk 250

Next we ended up by the new Montreign casino being built in the Catskills. Its going up pretty quick and this thing is going to be huge. Can’t wait to come by with the hawk 250 when its open.

This is the old Concord Resort and Golf Course. I would love to rip the hawk 250 thru there but they had workers all over the place. This is where the new Montreign casino is being built.

Hawk 250 Dual Sport

Next stop was the Kiamesha lake in Monticello NY and a perfect spot to take a picture of my hawk 250 bike. This hawk 250 has taken us all around the Catskills and Hudson Valley. This was one of my best purchases of this year and we got a lot of use out of it. I couldn’t afford a real dual sport bike and this was a perfect fit for my budget, starting at $1399.

Black Hawk 250

Some pictures the girlfriend took while riding on the back of the hawk 250. We enjoy taking out the hawk 250 whenever we can and there is so much scenic riding to be done around us and the great thing is you barely ever see any cars.

Hawk 250 Feb 2018 Update

What’s up fellow hawk 250 owners. Sorry for being a ghost but work has been super busy and that pays the bills so I been focusing on that.  Last time I had the chance to ride my hawk 250 was back in October.

Couple days ago I decided to make some time for my hawk 250 to change the oil. It’s been sitting for a while. I normally like to change my oil every 300 to 500 miles since it’s cheap to change.

The battery on the hawk was dead like always because I’m lazy to install one of those trickle charges or whatever it’s called lol.

But my hawk 250 loves me and she always starts up with the kickstart, sometimes she turns on quick and sometimes she needs more loving.

I got the oil changed but didn’t really get a chance to ride it. Most of the air from the tires was gone and I wanted to do a full checkup of bolts, wires and screws before doing any riding.

Here are some pictures from that day. Hopefully I will find more free time to update this blog for you guys. Sorry if I don’t get back to everyone on emails, you can always try me on instagram or facebooo.

She is filthy from all the woodworking I have been doing in the garage. She needs a nice wash.

I did have a issue at the end of the summer when my gas tank started leaking at the valve. My jb weld is still going strong.

Changing out Hawk 250 Stator and Testing Bike

My buddies hawk 250 one day stopped working, he is around 3500 miles. The hawk 250 turned on for a few minutes and then shut off. He was moving at this time and the hawk sat for almost 4 months before we had a chance to look at it.

We did the “quick” troubleshoot method lol.  We swapped out the quick parts from my working hawk and he still didn’t have any spark.  We watched some videos on checking stators and magneto switches and found it was bad.  We got a new stator from therps.net website for $50 but now they have changed their prices and it costs more, not cool.

Here is the video we recorded while changing the stator out. It was fairly easy to remove the cover and get to the stator to replace it. You just need to make sure to take pictures of everything before you take it apart, its always good to be able to look at the picture and make sure you put it back together correctly. The mind can easily forget or confuse you lol.

\

Here are some pictures of the new stator we got and the old stator.

Getting the red hawk 250 ready for operation.

It’s very easy to get to the stator. You need to make sure to remove the small cover on the electric start. There is one more bolt behind the gears that are holding the stator cover in.

The below is the old stator. Make sure to take notes on how its installed and put the old stator and magneto switch back the same way. You want to make sure you don’t pinch the wires. Pay attention to how the stock one was set in there and do the same with the new stator and switch.

Hawk 250

You will need to remove the wires from the plug before you will be able to remove the hawk 250 stator from the cover box. I used a flat head screwdriver to push the tabs and push the wire out. Remember to take a picture or write down the order the wires go into the plug. You need to make sure they are put back in the same order.

The red hawk 250 owner making sure she clean and everything looks good before we put the cover and new stator back on.

Once we got everything closed up. It took a while to get the hawk 250 started since it was sitting for a while. We replaced the gas, we cleaned the carb and put in a new spark plug but she still took a few kicks before she started.  The battery was pretty much dead and we didn’t have a charger. I was kicking too fast and my leg slipped and hit the foot peg an this is the damage below. Excuse the white hairy legs lol.

This is a few days later. Looks really bad but it doesn’t hurt and by now its healed up more.

If you have any questions about this post, please feel free to contact me. I’m no expect mechanic but I will do my best to help you out if you have any questions on how I did it.

Recent YouTube Uploads of My Hawk 250

These are some videos I recently uploaded to my YouTube channel. Thank you for all your support and comments you leave on my website and social media accounts. I started this blog when I got my hawk back in Dec 2015 and I never thought it would get this big and that I would meet so many other hawk 250 owners =).  Email me if you have any questions about my blog or my hawk 250 dual sport bike.

This was a recent ride I did in Feb, it was a nice day and went out for a cruise. I found a seasonal road and it was very slippery with the stock hawk 250 tires and the amount of thread life I have on them but I still went for it, I got up the hill but very slowly lol.

This is another seasonal road by my house that I like ride. This day it was very wet and muddy and again with the stock tires I had issues. I need to save up some money and get a new set of tires soon for my hawk 250.

Some clips from my iPhone of me messing around on my driveway in the snow.

This was from anther ride when I had another hawk rider with me, it was the blue hawk 250. This rider isn’t a fan of riding in the snow, so we had to turn around and I was glad because I wasn’t’ ready to go down lol. We were about 40 miles from my house and I didn’t want to get stuck

June 24th 30 Mile Ride with Dual Sport and Girlfriend Video

Quick post hawk riders, I recently uploaded 3 YouTube videos on my channel from our bike ride on June 24th 2018, we did a bit over 30 miles and it was a great time, as always.

About 10-15 minutes into the ride, I heard some noise and found a trail entrance, when we went in we found bunch of ATV and dirt bikers ripping it up in the sand and gravel. The girlfriend didn’t want no part of the off-roading lol, so I will need to come back with with another buddy and get some better video of the quarry and trails.

My hawk 250 is maybe 400 to 500 miles before it hits 5000 miles (I’m guessing because I don’t know the exact mileage on my stock cluster, it was a bit over a thousand miles). I will be doing a hawk 250 5000 mile review real soon. I haven’t had any major issues yet.

Hawk 250 YouTube Videos, below you will find the 3 different uploads. Please share and like if you would like to help me build up my YouTube channel, I appreciate it.

This video shows the off-road/trail we found while riding the hawk 250.

This video is showcasing my new hawk 250 spoke skins I recently purchased. You can get yours from the hawk shop, click here see my video on installing the spoke protectors

This is the street riding part of the ride on June 24th, like always its very scenic views when riding around the Catskills. A lot of empty resorts from the 40s as you can see in the middle of the video.

New Hawk 250 Dual Sport Random iPhone Clips Video

I have just uploaded some short clips I had of my friends and my hawk 250 dual sport bikes. I was holding the iPhone the wrong way for every single video, so that is why you see images added into the video. Sorry for the noob mistake =).

We are loving the hawks 250 dual sport bikes and try to get as much riding as we can. We haven’t had any major issues with them. The key is to make sure to do routine maintenance to prevent major issues from occurring.

Hawk 250 – How to Fix Chain Guide and Tire Rubbing Problem Video

This was a great find by MotoCheez on why the Hawk 250 RPS dual sport rear tire would rub against the chain. It seems the chain guide holes are way off from where they should be.  This was a fairly quick tweak to do on my Hawk 250 RPS. I had to do it on 3 other Hawk 250 and it got easier and quicker after the first one.
