Hawk 250 Review from Rob_HK250

The following hawk 250 review was submitted from a hawk 250 user I met on Instagram. Please follow him on Instagram @rob_hk250.

I saved up over eight months to buy a bike to ride around and have fun on. I found the hawk 250 through the help of my friend, we searched for two months online for the bike. He showed me the hawk 250 and asked if it was ok or fit my taste. I told him yes and I searched for videos of the hawk along with reviews. It came time to order my the bike.

Hawk 250

Power sports max was really helpful with the bike and the shipping to NJ was fast. After the hawk 250 bike arrived my step father and I put it together to discover it did not want to start. How ever that was an easy fix with a new ignition coil and the battery being jumped the bike started with no problem. This bike is really easy to handle and can be really fun if you know what you are doing. If you like to work on your own bikes I would recommend this bike to you. If I had to rate this bike on a scale from 1\10 I would give it a 9.5.

Thanks to Brian L for This Hawk 250 Skid Plate Suggestion With Install Pictures

Whats ups hawkers, I had a few people email me about the skid plate I have shown in the hawk 250 shop, I haven’t been able to purchase this item for my hawk yet, waiting for the budget to allow it. A very helpful user from our hawk facebook page was nice enough to take his skid plate setup off to show us some pictures of the setup and what you will need to do to make this work, this is a very simple modification.

Its not a direct bolt on, but as you can see its very easy to make it work and I’m sure there is 100 different ways to mount it and make it work, so if you don’t mind tinkering with your hawk then this should be very doable for you.

I will also be doing a video and guide on the hawk 250 skid plate once I order it.  Below are all images from o Brian L from our Facebook Group, click here to join.

Specs on what you will need to mount the hawk 250 skid plate

Hardware. Two 1/4 by 2.5″ long bolts. One 1/4 by 1 3/4″ bolt. Some washers, lock washers or just use nyloc nuts on all 3 bolts.

Orange washers in pic come with the skid plate hardware.

Brackets are 1″ aluminum. 1/4″ thick so it wouldn’t bend when tightened down. Front bracket is 6.5″ long. Back is 4.25″ long. Aluminum bar stock should be available at virtually any hardware store as well as all bolts. Mine was scrap I had laying around so Used what I had.

Slightly bigger than 1/4″ holes drilled in front bar. Holes are 2 1/8″ apart from center to center of hole.

Bolts pass through the skid plate and bracket with the frame sandwiched in between.

Back bracket rests in small v section under frame and merely tightened up the bolt until skid plate didn’t move anymore.

Removal was a lot easier than I expected. Merely removed front bolts and bracket and slid plate forward until back bracket slid off the V section under the frame. Took longer to move bike away from my bench and get tools out than removing the plate.

Just Some Quick Backyard Fun with Hawk 250 Dual Sport

Short post, I was busy working on my gazebo project for the last few weeks but I missed the hawk 250 and had to take it out, this is my off road hawk and it needs some work, I didn’t check the chain and it was loose and when I hit the log the chain came off, it was a quick fix and up the hill I went.  Once I have time to clean up my yard, I will have some nice trail to ride around my house. Check the short youtube video below of my hawk 250 in action and please like and share the video. I’m trying to hit that 1000 subscribers on YouTube so they start paying me pennies again lol.

Back Yard Fun During Gazebo Build

Whats up hawk 250 familia, just a quick post on some new YouTube videos I uploaded from todays quick session on the hawk 250 while working in my backyard.

Once I clean it all up, I will mount my action camera and get some proper videos of the hawk ripping up some dirt. If you like the videos and would like to help, please LIKE and Share. I’m trying to hit that 1000 subscribers, YouTube cut my pennies since I only have 500+ subscribers.

And Second Video from the same day of the hawk 250 in action. The below video is a quick ride with my girl on the back and she wanted to get off real quick haha.

In case you missed some of these other recent videos I uploaded on Hawk 250 YouTube.

This video below is a good one, recently I made it so you can see the eBay and Amazon prices for the hawk 250 parts and upgrades for sale. When you click on any product in the Hawk 250 Shop, on the top you will see the Amazon item and under it you will see the eBay price.

Hawk 250 Junk

I think I have heard that the hawk 250 is junk a few times over the years. I agree its not the perfect bikes, it has its issues but don’t we all? If you go buy a brand new $10k Honda or Kawasaki dirt bike, I’m sure there are thousands of people saying its junk.

It’s all opinion at the end of the day, only you can know if the hawk 250 is junk after testing it yourself. Most of the issues I see people reporting are more of “user error” mixed in with some “bad manufacturing” in the factories with again “user error” when the workers assembled the hawks in the China factories. Most of the issues I had with the hawk have been due to lack of maintenance. I have worked on maybe 8 hawks between my cousins and friends that had these bikes. All the bikes have their own unique quirks but they still run and provide us hours of fun on the road!

Riding The Hawks 250 With MotoCheez

My hawk has close to 6500 miles, nothing major has broken. All of the parts I have changed have been cheap and easily replacement. The biggest job for me was changing the hawk stator and it wasn’t even on my hawk, it was my buddies bike but we figured it out and got it all working.

Do you own a hawk? Please comment below what kind of issues you had with your hawk 250 rps?

June 14th 2018 30 Minute Ride

Just a quick post to share my hawk 250 ride back from June 14th, it was a beautiful day for a ride. The video below is about 30 mins of straight riding solo on my hawk 250 dual sport bike. It ran great and no issues, other then a few days later when I noticed my hawk sounding bad and it was due to a loose exhaust header connection bolts, so always MAKE sure to check your bolts and nuts. I’m so happy it was a simple fix and my hawk is on the road sounding and running great.

Hawk 250 Mikuni Carburetor and Jets

If your hawk 250 isn’t running correctly, chances are the stock hawk 250 carburetor is not tuned correctly or using the wrong jets. I have worked on 4 different hawk 250 dual sport bikes so far and all of them had the same issue, not tuned or running the wrong jets. The hawk 250 manufactures have the adjustment screws and the screws to remove the carb cover sealed with plastic coating so you can’t take them out.  My first hawk 250 bike I was able to remove the tamper proof screws they have but it does require some tools to be able to get the cover open. If you would like to mess with the stock hawk 250 carb, I have the images posted at the bottom of this blog post.

Hawk 250

I purchased my hawk 250 mikuni carburetor and jets from amazon. If you would like to purchase this carb, you can click on the images below (links will open in new window) for the carb and jets. My affiliate link is setup with the links below and if you use my link to purchase the carb, I will get a small commission from amazon and it all goes back towards my hawk 250 and keeping this website going.  If you need any help with replacing the carb, please email me and I will do my best to guide you with any issues you are having. I’m not a motorcycle or a auto mechanic but I know my way around the toolbox and how to get stuff done.

The jet size that I’m currently using is a 115 but I recommend getting the package below that has different carb jet sizes so you can quickly switch them out for testing them in your location.

I would also highly recommend swapping out the stock hawk 250 exhaust with the new hawk 250 aftermarket exhaust. Its fairly priced for what you get and the minute you swap out the hawk 250 stock exhaust with the new aftermarket one, you will notice a difference. You can read my post on the hawk 250 exhaust by clicking here.

Here are some pictures if you are looking to modify your stock hawk 250 carburetor, in my opinion the hawk 250 Mikuni carb is easier to work on and its not that expensive to get for your hawk. If you have any questions about the stock hawk 250 carb or the Mikuni one, please contact me and I will get back to you asap.

Published on Feb 18, 2016

Purchased a brand new Chinese Hawk 250, took photos along the way and some videos for those who are thinking of buying one. It’s really not a bad bike for the money. About 4 hour assembly time because no instructions are included. The second build would take less than 2 hours.” by MotoCheez

The second YouTube video that he uploaded was a hawk 250 1000 mile review video.

Published on Apr 7, 2016

Well I hit 1000 miles and it’s time for my review! Thanks for all the support. I think the bike will last quite a long time. Running like a top still.” by MotoCheez

75 Mile Dual Sport Ride With Girlfriend around The Catskills

On June 19th 2018, the girlfriend and I went for a nice long ride around the Catskills NY historic towns, we did about 75 miles in about an hour and half of straight riding.

I couldn’t be more happier with my hawk 250 dual sport, the girlfriend and I must have done over 1000 miles of riding together. We haven’t had any real serious issues other than that one time when we got a flat due to one of the spokes cracking and puncturing the tire. I’m coming close to 5000 miles on my bike and no serious issues with the engine or any expensive parts. Only thing I have been replacing is silly stuff I have been breaking like bolts, mirrors, sprocket covers and other small stuff.

Hawk 250 Full 75 Mile Ride With Girl YouTube Video

My hawks battery is still dead and the kickstarter is acting up, so I didn’t shut the hawk off at all during the 75 mile ride and she did great.

I had some issues the day before and it was all due to a loose exhaust header connection, I got lazy with checking the bolts and I learned my lesson. Thanks again to MotoCheez for the quick suggestion.

The video below is only 4 mins, something happened with the rendering of the video. I will re-upload the full raw video for anyone that wants proof of what the hawk can do =), as you will see in the video I think I only stopped at 1 light and a handful of stop signs, it was nothing but riding and mostly in 4th gear doing 45 to 55 with my girl on the back.
